unable to view threads

I have recently registered for Club Columbia forums ,but can't view threads.Login seems to work but threads all say "private" any help?

You need to login to see the threads and it does not look like you logged in (note your post is listed as "Unregistered" instead of your username). Did you complete the email registration? The site sends you an email after registration which includes an activation link. You need to click on it to activate the account.

I got on today on a different computer,would that matter? I also found old registration e-mail and clicked on link for AOL user and it said I was already registered.I too noticed the "unregistered" on my last post and figured something was/is wrong. I will try again and see if the other computer will log on.Also I had been trolling this site for about 2 weeks unregistered and found no problem reading the forum posts until now:confused:

I can not view threads at all except for this one. I have been a member for a 15 or 16 months. Anybody know what is going on? Also why do we now have to log in everytime we go to the web site and if that is what we are going to have to do from now on--why doesn't the "remember me" button work?

The website logins are cookie-based. The "remember" feature works based on a cookie set in your browser so if your browser is set to reject cookies, the "remember" part won't work (and you'll have to login each time). If you do allow cookies though, you will basically login once in your life as all future logins will be "magic" (ie. done behind the scenes by your browser).

The second issue is related to our dual-headed website. We have two different websites actually: www.lancairpilots.org and www.clubcolumbia.org with one being an alias to the other. The "master" website is actually "lancairpilots" not "clubcolumbia" because we never actually switched fully to the new name (good thing too as it looks like "clubcolumbia" is scheduled for yet-another change anyway). The result of this funky setup is that cookies expire between domains. If you login via "clubcolumbia", your cookie will expire every 24h (not sure about the exact delay but this is a ballpark) and you'll have to login again. This has nothing to do with your browser and everything to do with our funky site. :)

So ... as practical troubleshooting, please check:


that your browser accepts cookies
cleanup old/bogus cookies (go into the cookie list, remove all cookies for lancairpilots.org or clubcolumbia.org and relogin. You should see a new cookie)
use lancairpilots.org (only for the expiration. This won't help zip if your browser does not accept cookies in the first place)
